A review of current understanding in tribochemical reactions involving lubricant additives

چکیده

Abstract Lubricants have played important roles in friction and wear reduction increasing efficiency of mechanical systems. To optimize tribological performance, chemical reactions between a lubricant substrate must be designed strategically. Tribochemical are enabled or accelerated by stimuli. Tribochemically activated additives play these reactions. In this review, current understanding mechanisms under shear has been discussed. Additives such as oil-soluble organics, ionic liquids (ILs), nanoparticles (NPs) were analyzed relation to the tribochemical reaction routes with elements metallic substrates. The results indicated that phosphorus, sulfur, fluorine, nitrogen key for resulting tribofilms from zinc dithiophosphates (ZDDP) molybdenum dithiocarbamate (MoDTC) widely reported, yet ILs NPs need investigate further. This review serves reference researchers design new lubricants.

Graphite and Hybrid Nanomaterials as Lubricant Additives

Lubricant additives, based on inorganic nanoparticles coated with organic outer layer, can reduce wear and increase load-carrying capacity of base oil remarkably, indicating the great potential of hybrid nanoparticles as anti-wear and extreme-pressure additives with excellent levels of performance. The organic part in the hybrid materials improves their flexibility and stability, while the inor...

Engineered silica nanoparticles as additives in lubricant oils

Silica nanoparticles (SiO2 NPs) synthesized by the sol-gel approach were engineered for size and surface properties by grafting hydrophobic chains to prevent their aggregation and facilitate their contact with the phase boundary, thus improving their dispersibility in lubricant base oils. The surface modification was performed by covalent binding of long chain alkyl functionalities using lauric...

Current understanding in diagnosis and management of factor XIII deficiency

Factor XIII or "fibrin-stabilizing factor," is a transglutaminase circulates in the blood circulation as a hetero tetramer with two catalytic A subunits and two carrier B subunits. This important coagulation factor has a crucial role in clotting cascade and produces strong covalent bonds between soluble formed fibrin monomers during coagulation. This stable cross linked fibrin strands are resis...
